The Gazette: Rescuing Baby Katherine in Malawi

This past month you made a lot of great things possible in the lives of children. The Gazette's purpose is to keep you in the know on all things Many Hopes - things you make possible! Thank you!

Gazette-Images_June_well (1)We believe that children who have survived injustice can be the best people to defeat the causes of what they suffered. So we help them do that.

A Place to Call Home

Baby Katherine* was taken in by our Malawian partner, Pothawira, last month. Her mother was a teenager when she had Katherine, and with no resources to care for her, she abandoned her two-month-old daughter. Neighbors found baby Katherine and brought her to Pothawira, knowing she would be safe there.

Because of your support, she is surrounded by people who love her, she is cared for, and she is safe. Katherine will grow up with opportunities her mother never had. Thank you for giving this little girl a place to call home.

From Bricklayer to Future Architect

Alex recently graduated from the elementary school run by our Guatemalan partner EDELAC. Throughout elementary school, Alex spent his afternoons and weekends working as a bricklayer to help support his family. As his classmates prepared for high school, Alex felt the weight of that responsibility and considered leaving school to work full-time.

With counseling and support from EDELAC, Alex chose to continue his education by enrolling in high school. Your support has helped Alex remain in school and pursue his dream of becoming an architect one day.

Big Futures in Ghana

Meet some of the brilliant beneficiaries in Ghana!

  • Mary is training to be a midwife to impact women's and children's health
  • Anita is studying nursing to help save lives in her community
  • Emmanuel is studying history with an eye toward shaping Ghana's future policies
  • Emmanuel (yes, there are two!) is pursuing medical laboratory science to improve access to healthcare in Ghana
  • Naru is finishing law school and plans to work on child protection policies that combat trafficking and slavery
  • Gideon is also studying medical laboratory science because he wants a healthier Ghana.

These are the futures your support is building. Thank you!

Heydy's goal is to earn a degree in psychology. Her dream is to return to EDELAC to work as a counselor. Cristina has begun nursing school and wants to be a nurse or a pharmacist so that more people in her community have access to healthcare and medication.

Meet Johann Flores from the Philippines. Johann is a member of The Rising, Many Hopes' monthly giving community committed to equipping a child every month of the year.

Q: Why did you join The Rising?
A: I joined the Rising because I believe that no child should be left behind! I grew up with a great childhood, full of fun memories in school and outside of it! As I grew older, I realized that no child should be deprived of their childhood and the opportunity to study. With my donation, I am very happy to know it can make a big difference.

Q: What part about Many Hopes drew you in?
A: The part about how the lives of children are cherished so much in Many Hopes. I was loved also as a child, and it is the best thing ever. And to think that some of those children can’t experience that is heartbreaking. But thanks to Many Hopes, they are bringing joy and hope to a child.

Q: What do you do for work?
A: I am still a student. I am just your ordinary college student doing my best to survive Nursing School!
